Introduction:

        • Leadership positions in Information Technology are projected to grow nearly 20 percent in coming years. Knowledge of information technology is needed for virtually every organization today, in every country. Those who know how to apply that knowledge effectively are valuable to any employer.
        • The Master of Information Technology degree is designed for IT professionals looking to update and extend their technical knowledge of advanced computing subjects or move into a new IT specialization. A master's degree in information technology shall prepare students with the communication skills, critical thinking abilities, and technical competencies to help advance their career.
        • Students will have the opportunity to apply appropriate technologies in the analysis and design of information systems, as well as assess ethical, legal, and social issues. The program is designed to provide students with an integrated design and technology background that may help students advance their career.

        Program Objectives:

        The following objectives are to be met by students obtaining a master's degree in information technology. Students will:
        1. Be prepared to be successful professionals in industry, academia and research.
        2. Be able to contribute to society as broadly educated, expressive, ethical and responsible citizens with proven expertise.
        3. Have the knowledge on how to manage ethical issues in research and information technology.
        4. Be able to contribute to software design and development cycle.
        5. Be able to conduct research using qualitative, quantitative and mixed methods.
        6. Be equipped with the newest networking technologies via special emphasis on wireless networking and optical networking.
        7. Have a full understanding of the management roles, responsibilities and techniques needed in managing technology projects.

        Learning Outcomes:

        Graduates of the Information Technology Master Program are expected to:
        1. Engage in professional and ethical behavior in the design, development and management of IT systems.
        2. Examine and formulate problems in major topics in computer science and information technology drawn from several areas, including applied areas technology.
        3. Integrate theoretical principles and up-to-date techniques in computer science and information technology to solve problems in the field of information technology.
        4. Communicate effectively through report writing, literature search, project design and oral presentations.
        5. Apply the latest computing and software development tools and techniques, especially state-of-the-art techniques that are used in industrial practice.
        6. Identify and describe the impact of key factors related to the design, management and performance of large-scale software systems.

        Admission Requirement:

        The admission requirements for this proposed program are in accordance with the general requirements set by Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. Prospective students should have any of the following qualifications to be accepted in the program:
        • A Bachelor’s Honor degree with a minimum of 160 credit hours in Information Technology, Information Systems or relevant discipline or relevant discipline from a recognized institution, or approved equivalent. Applicants of this category must have at least a Second-lower class.
        or:
        • A Bachelor’s degree (Honors/General) in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or relevant discipline from a recognized institution, or approved equivalent. Students who belong to this category must sit for and pass a qualifying exam at the department of Computer Science with a minimum average of 60.
        or:
        • A Bachelor’s Honor degree with a third class or General degree in Information Technology, Information Systems, or relevant discipline from a recognized institution, or approved equivalent. Students who belong to this category must sit for and pass a qualifying exam at the department of Computer Science with a minimum average of 60.
        or:
        • A Postgraduate Diploma in Information Technology from a recognized institution, or approved equivalent with a minimum grade of Good.

        Awarded Degrees:

        • The successful completion of the program requires 10 units of study, which are equivalent to 30 credit hours, and 2 units of research project work, which are equivalent to 6 credit hours. Consequently, the total required credit hours are 36. The 10 units of study are divided into 6 core units plus 4 electives that are chosen by the department depending on what is trending at the time of the program delivery.
        • After successfully completing the program, the candidate may be awarded the Master of Science degree in Information Technology. Otherwise, a student may be awarded the postgraduate diploma in Information Technology as per the conditions stated in section (8.3).
