Libraries

Overview:

  • The College Library founded with the College in 2014 to serve staff, students, researchers and College society by providing information services to them.
  • The library working according to the library regulations which approved from the College Council. As the third rib in the educational process the library helped the College to fulfill its mission by supporting educational curricula, scientific research and self-learning for students.
  • The library managing to enhance College rank till approaching accreditation stage.
  • Library workflow depends upon inputs, processing and outputs: inputs represent building and development of collection, processing represents the technical work, outputs represent the information services.

Structure:


Vision:

  • We hope the College Library becomes outstanding academic library by implementing information and communication technology, and international quality standards to provide distinct information services to patrons.

Mission:

  • Helping the College in performing its mission via supporting educational process, scientific research, and self-learning.

Objectives:

  • Acquirement of information resources (paper and digital) according to the library regulations.
  • Organization of information resources to be accessed by patrons.
  • Accessing digital information via E-Library.
  • Computation of library activities.
  • Management of the College digital contents.

Building & Development of Collection:

  • The collection of prof. Ahmed Magzub (College Dean) which deposited at the library considered as nucleus of library collection.
  • It includes books on Islamic heritage, economics, and scientific journals on banks and banking, financial and administrative studies.
  • Acquisition processes achieve through purchase, gifts, exchange, and endowment.
  • Khartoum International Book Fair represents good opportunity for library acquisition, where teaching staff select precisely their information resources that needed.
  • The library of Abdallah Bedri:
  • The family of late Ustaz Abdallah Bedri endowed his library to the College library in 2017. It represents a real addition to the main collection.
  • The collection of Bedri includes different subjects in Arabic and English, especially in economics, banking, financial, and Sudanese studies which provide a Non purchasable resources to the library.

Technical Processing:

  • Technical processing includes classification, cataloging, indexing, and abstraction to library holdings.
  • This process enables patrons to access resources in a precise and disciplined way.
  • The library uses the following tools:
  • Dewey Decimal Classification Plan 22th ed.
  • Anglo-American Cataloging Rules 2nd ed. Now the library managing to convert into “RDA”.
  • The Arabic Subject Headings List.
  • Fuaad Ismail Amended D.D.C.
  • Library of Congress Subject Headings List.

Information Services:

The university library measured by information services quality which presents to patrons. The library presents the following services:
  • The interior perusal service (opening hours: Sunday to Thursday from 08:00 a.m. to 03:30 p.m.).
  • Reference services.
  • Photocopying.
  • External lending only for teaching staff.
  • Accessing library catalogs.
  • Bibliographic services and current awareness.
  • Selective information dissemination.
  • The library presents its services to users from outside the College.

Library Information System:

  • The library uses “Koha” Information System. Koha is web-based ILS, with a SQL database backend with cataloguing data stored in MARC and accessible via Z39.50.
  • The user interface is very configurable and adaptable and has been translated into many languages. It provides   cataloguing, searching, member / patron management, an acquisitions system, and circulation (issues, returns, and reserves).
  • The system works on college internet. The library is managing now to use Dspace system for digital collection.

The E-Library:

  • The E-library offers a variety of information resources, such as e-books, e-journals, and other digital information to researchers on many subjects related to College curricula.
  • E-library can access databases belong to Sudanese Research and Education Network (SudREN) which is specialized internet service provider to supporting the needs of research and education communities within Sudan.
